Following a request from the Refereeing Department, the KHL Disciplinary Committee has investigated two incidents from Game 1 of the Eastern Conference final series between Metallurg and Salavat Yulaev on Wednesday.

The first episode was the 8th-minute collision between Ufa forward Igor Grigorenko and Magnitogorsk defenseman Alexei Bereglazov. After viewing the evidence, the Committee found Grigorenko guilty of deliberately tripping his opponent, for which he receives a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes).

The Committee then turned its attention to the 58th-minute foul that led to Metallurg defenseman Rafael Batyrshin receiving a minor penalty for roughing. After reviewing this incident, the Committee judged Batyrshin guilty of checking to the head or neck area, and has therefore imposed a more severe punishment - a minor plus misconduct penalty (2+10 minutes).

For Grigorenko, this is the second 20-minute penalty of the current season, while Batyrshin has now received three 10-minute penalties during the current campaign. This means each player receives a mandatory one-game ban for persistent offending, and as a result, both are disqualified from Friday’s Game 2 of the series in Magnitogorsk.
