To mark the end of the first full month’s play of the ninth season of the Championship, The Kontinental Hockey League has named the best players of the month in four categories.
– Best goaltender was Ilya Proskuryakov (Torpedo), who in 14 matches helped his team to 9 wins, including 3 shutouts - two of which were on the road. Ilya recorded a save percentage of 95.99, the best September figure of any goalie in the League, and a goals against average of 1.00;
– Best defenseman was Mat Robinson (Dynamo Moscow), who celebrated 9 victories in 15 appearances, with a personal contribution of 10 points (2+8), 40 shots at goal, 27 blocks and 21 hits. Robinson did not receive a single negative rating in any of his 15 outings and finished the month with a +6.
– Best forward was Sergei Mozyakin (Metallurg Magnitogorsk), with a haul of 21 points (11+10) from 15 games, propelling him not only to the top of the current League listings for both points and goals, but also making him the most prolific scorer in Russian hockey history. The Magnitka captain now has 435 career strikes under his belt, beating Boris Mikhailov’s previous record of 428. Mozyakin took points from 13 of his 15 outings in September, scored goals in 10 of them, and struck a double in the match against Traktor.
– Best rookie was Admiral forward Vladimir Tkachyov, who played in 13 games and ended the month with 14 points (6+8), including a double against HC Sochi (against whom he fired off 21 shots). Despite his tender years (he just celebrated his 21st birthday) Tkachyov is already the Vladivostok team’s second highest scorer of the new season.
