To mark the end of the eighth week’s play of the ninth season of the Championship, The Kontinental Hockey League has named the best players of the week in four categories.
– Best goaltender was Stanislav Galimov (Ak Bars). The 28-year-old did not allow a single goal in either of his two games (home wins over Admiral and Kunlun Red Star), helping the Kazan men achieve eight straight victories and climb to the top of the Eastern Conference standings;
– Best defenseman was Tomas Kundratek (Slovan), with 4 points (3+1) from three road games Kundratek hit a double at Dynamo Moscow, struck 7 shots at goal, averaged 20 minutes of ice time, and finished the week an efficiency rating of +4;
– Best forward was Kirill Kaprizov (Salavat Yulaev), who celebrated two victories in three home games, from which he took 5 points (3+2). Kaprizov fired off a total of 7 shots, struck a double against Avtomobilist, and did not receive a single negative rating in any outing, thus earning a +5 for the week;
– Best rookie was 20-year-old Traktor forward, Ilya Zinovyev, who made three appearances and ended the week with one win, 2 points (1+1), 7 shots at goal, a rating of +2 and an average ice time of around 10 minutes.
