Following a request from the Refereeing Department, the KHL Disciplinary Committee recently investigated certain incidents from Monday's match in Kazan between Ak Bars and Dinamo Riga, in particular, the episode which took place a mere 15 seconds into the game, when Ak Bars forward Alexander Svitov was given a minor plus misconduct penalty (2+10 minutes) for checking from behind.
After studying the evidence, the Committee found the player guilty of the more serious offense of injuring an opponent by checking to the head and neck area. As a result, the minor plus misconduct penalty is replaced with a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes), a fine, and a one-game suspension.
Moreover, as this was the player's second 20-minute penalty of the new season, he incurs a separate fine and an automatic one-game suspension for repeat offending. Consequently, Alexander Svitov has been disqualified for two games.
