To mark the end of the twelfth week’s play of the tenth season of the Championship, the Kontinental Hockey League has named the best players of the week in four categories.
– Best goaltender was Vasily Koshechkin (Metallurg Magnitogorsk), who helped the Men of Steel win two of their three road games, one of which was a shutout victory. The veteran goalie recorded a save percentage of 98.04 and a goals against average of 0.65, and his shutout series now stretches to 150 minutes and 59 seconds.
– Best defenseman was Denis Kulyash (Avtomobilist), who also helped his team win 2 out of 3 matches on the road, from which he took 3 (2+1) points (including a double against Dinamo Riga). The 34-year-old D-man also contributed 4 hits and yielded a positive rating from each outing, ending the week with a +5;
– Best forward was Andrei Kuzmenko (CSKA), whose team triumphed in all three matches during the week, helped by his personal haul of 4 (3+1) points. The 21-year-old did not receive a single negative rating on his way to earning a +4 for the week, and he scored a double (including the game-winner) against Salavat Yulaev;
– Best rookie was 20-year-old Dynamo Moscow forward Alexander Petunin, who made three appearances on the road and ended the week with 3 victories. His personal figures for the past seven days include 4 (2+2) points, 8 shots at goal, 2 hits, an average ice time of 15 minutes 11 seconds, and not a single negative rating, meriting a +4 for the week. Moreover, in the match against Admiral, young Alexander struck his first ever goal in the KHL.
