To mark the end of the eighteenth week of the tenth season of the Championship, the Kontinental Hockey League has named the best players of the week in four categories.
– Best goaltender, for the second time this season, was Ilya Ezhov (Neftekhimik), who made two appearances (one at home, one on the road) and kept the opposition off the scoreboard in both. The 30-year-old Russian goalie's shutout series now stands at 143 minutes 33 seconds.
– Best defenseman, also for the second time of the 2017-18 campaign, was Vojtech Mozik (Vityaz). The 24-year-old Czech helped the men from Moscow Region win two of their three matches (one of which was on the road, at CSKA), recording 11 shots, 8 blocks and 4 (2+2) points – the highest total of any defenseman in the League last week. In that impressive win over the Moscow Army Men, Mozik hit a double, which included the game-winner;
– Best forward was Robert Sabolic (Admiral), who struck four goals in four matches (the biggest haul of any sniper in the KHL), and also contributed 1 assist, 22 shots, and 10 hits. In the Far East Derby against Amur, the 29-year-old from Slovenia bagged a brace of goals, one of which secured victory for his team;
– Best rookie was 19-year-old Severstal forward Igor Geraskin, who enjoyed two outings on the road and whose account for the past seven days shows 5 shots, no negative ratings (meriting a +1 for the week), an average ice time of 14 minutes 11 seconds, and last but not least, the first goal of his KHL career.
