In the 34th minute of Monday's match in Khanty-Mansiysk between Ugra and HC Sochi, visiting forward Andrei Ivanov was given a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes) for kneeing and injuring an opponent. After reviewing the incident, the KHL Disciplinary Committee supported the referee's decision, and ruled that Ivanov must pay a fine and serve a one-game suspension.
Two other players who received lengthy penalties on Monday were handed automatic bans after falling foul of the Disciplinary Regulations regarding repeat offending.
In the 20th minute of the match in Moscow between crosstown rivals Dynamo and CSKA, home forward Nikita Komarov earned a major penalty for fisticuffs. As this was not the first ime the player had received a 5-minute penalty during the current campaign, he receives a fine and an automatic one-game suspension.
Likewise, in the 46th minute of the match in Magnitogorsk between Metallurg and SKA, home forward Jan Kovar picked up a minor plus misconduct penalty (2+10 minutes) for checking to the head and neck area. This was the third such occasion this season that Kovar had received a 10-minute penalty, and as a result, he incurs a fine and an automatic one-game suspension.
