To mark the end of the third full month's play of the tenth season of the Championship, the Kontinental Hockey League has named the best players of December in four categories.
– Best goaltender was Ilya Sorokin (CSKA), who achieved the highest save percentage, 96.02, and lowest goals against average, 0.99, of any goalie in the League for the month. The 22-year-old Russian's longest shutout series in December stretched to 125 minutes and 53 seconds;
– Best defenseman was Oleg Piganovich (Neftekhimik). The 32-year-old Russian celebrated six wins in 10 matches,contributing 5 (1+4) points, 11 hits and 10 blocks. Piganovich's goal, on the road against Ak Bars, secured victory for theNizhnekamsk team and he merited a +8 for the month;
– Best forward was Alexander Bergstrom (Sibir), who helped the Novosibirsk Men to victory in five of his nine outings. The 31-year-old Swede took points in all 9 matches, scored goals in 8 of them (which included a double against Neftekhimik), amassed 13 (9+4) points and earned a +6 for the month;
– Best rookie, for the second successive month, was Dynamo Moscow forward Alexander Petunin. The 20-year-old was given 10 outings, for which his account showed 15 shots, 6 (2+4) points, an average ice time of 13 minutes 52 seconds, and a +5 for the month.
